Porpoises and P.I.E

Updated: Feb 16

Come join the Italian Chef and his helpers as they teach about Author's Purpose using the acronym P.I.E. : Persuade, Inform, and Entertain. And entertained you will be.

As a reader it helps to ask, "Why is someone writing? What are they trying to accomplish?" As a writer it helps to ask the same question: "What is my purpose in writing? What do I want to accomplish" There are many reasons a writer writes. Here are three are three of the more popular reasons.

1) PERSUADE: A author may be trying to get you to see things from their perspective. They may provide facts, arguments, and details to support their claims. Ultimately you get to decide.

2) INFORM: Details, Details, Details. The author has some important information that they want you to know.

3) ENTERTAIN: Stories. Jokes. Twists and turns. Whatever it takes. The author wants to take you away for a bit and give you a chance to be somewhere else.
